The Center also offers a range of specialized language programs, such as a shared course initiative with peer institutions using distance technology, the English Language Program, and Directed Independent Language Study. Under direction of the Associate Director, the Language Technology and Research Specialist offers specialized instructional and technical support to foreign language faculty and leads projects internal to the Center. Principal responsibilities: Provides strategic vision for integrating technology and language instruction across campus, including distance learning and online learning environments. Consults with faculty and graduate teaching fellows regarding pedagogy and technology practices. Devises innovative strategies for instructional design and runs workshops for faculty on new directions in technology-assisted learning. Conducts research and analyzes latest trends in technology-assisted learning, shaping Yales evolving thinking about the new possibilities for online and technology mediated learning environments. Collects and analyzes data and compiles reports for internal and external purposes, including grant reporting. Disseminates information through conference presentation and scholarly articles. Provides data analysis and strategic vision on grant applications and follow-up reporting on grant awards. Conducts needs analysis across departments regarding distance learning, mobile and online technologies, open educational resources, and social media in teaching and learning. Collaborates with faculty to create new opportunities for teaching with technology. Shares knowledge on the theory and practice of technology-assisted learning, including pursuing fundamental questions about student engagement, peer-to-peer feedback, learning outcomes, and assessment in an online environment. Conducts original research and reports on it nationally to shape the direction of online learning within Yale and beyond. Collaborates with information technology specialists within Yale and with peer institutions on new directions in technology-assisted language learning. Pilots new technologies and acts as advisor to the CLS and the wider Yale community on the long-term usefulness of new tools and platforms for technology-assisted learning. Stays abreast of latest developments in the field, assessing current tools and comparing our electronic infrastructure with peer institutions. Creates and develops tools to publicize departmental activities and to build community, including the blog, Twitter feed, Facebook, and website. Conceptualizes and implements changes to these tools to create a more dynamic presence for the CLS in the language learning community. Coordinates with peer institutions on sharing and disseminating information. Remains current on the latest developments in technology-assisted learning by networking with language technology specialists at peer institutions. Contributes to knowledge about technology-assisted learning by attending conferences and by authoring scholarly articles and presenting at conferences. Experience: Masters Degree in a foreign language, applied linguistics, TESOL or related field, such as Computer Assisted Language Learning or Instructional Technology required. Ph.D. preferred. Experience working in a language resource center or similar academic environment preferred. Additional Experience: 1. Demonstrated experience in classroom teaching, preferably of a foreign language, or experience planning and leading workshops or training sessions, preferred. Skills: Demonstrated ability to interact with faculty. Well-developed organizational skills. Well-developed oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with current methods in language teaching and second language acquisition theory.
